Minister Collado: “February, March and April are shaping up to be record months for arrivals”.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted the progress of the sector which he leads in the Dominican Republic. He highlighted the level of public investment, as well as the constant influx of tourists month after month, anticipating record figures for the first months of the year.

“Tourism continues to strengthen, on track to break records. February, March and April are shaping up to be record months, and as part of the infrastructure plan mentioned by the president, we are revitalizing all our beaches,” he added.

He reported that “the tourism industry is making steady, solid and strong progress, and the numbers back it up”, stated Collado after President Luis Abinader’s speech.

The Mitur head explained that “up to 2019, Dominican cumulative growth was 4.6%, while globally it was 4.8%. That is, we were slightly below global growth. But from 2020 to 2023, while the world decreased annually by 3.6%, the Dominican Republic maintained a growth of 4.2%.”

Collado also thanked President Abinader for his recognition in his accountability. “Without a doubt, 2023 was the best year in the history of Dominican tourism.”

He also predicted an “extremely strong” start for 2024. “In January 2024, we start with more than one million visitors, and in February, we already have the best February in history.”
