Ministry of Tourism presents a new digital platform for transparency

The initiative is part of a zero bureaucracy strategy, with the purpose of eliminating documents in different processes and requests

Santo Domingo, DR. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, presented a platform, with new tools for digitizing tourist procedures, as an integral part of the transparency strategy.

During the event, the launch of the CONFOTUR Online and Online Licenses platforms was announced. With these tools, tourism companies will be able to request their CONFOTUR classifications, as well as their operating licenses, directly on the institution’s website, from the comfort of their offices and homes.

Collado announced that, as part of the Zero Bureaucracy strategy, he has signed resolutions in order to eliminate documents in the license application processes. For example, in hotel licenses the number of requirements was reduced from 16 to 11.

In addition, the concept of temporary license was introduced, to give flexibility to the user that during the year 2021 and after the effects of COVID-19, they can strengthen their files without having to be in the informal sector. Also in the period will be making dispensations on the arrears and delays of expired licenses. Finally, the Minister also announced the reduction of the tariff by 50%.

“All this in order to give flexibility, in a year of crisis, for all establishments to start their formalization processes, and access to all the initiatives that the Ministry does for the formal ones. But at the same time we will be strengthening measures against informality. We want equity for all ”, were the words of Minister Collado.

President Abinader said that today marks 6 months after announcing the launch of the Zero Bureaucracy program, which aims to promote the efficiency of public administration, through clear, transparent regulatory frameworks that allow the simplification of procedures and services. and improving the reality of regulations.

“Today we begin to see the first fruits in this direction. The platform presented today by the Ministry of Tourism shows that vision of innovation that we always seek as a commitment to transparency and a focus on improving public services ”, declared the Dominican President.

During the activity, held at the Hotel Embajador, the implementation of the Single Tourist Registry was announced, an identifier of tourist establishments which will be mandatory to include in all commercial documents of tourist providers.

This RUT will also be found in the new Digital License, TuCard, a card with a QR code which will take the person who consults it to the relevant information of the establishment, including the status of their license. This code must also be shown in the network and establishment profiles to facilitate verifications by those who request it.

In addition, users will be able to access the MITUR website and consult the different tourist providers using the name, RUT and other criteria. “All this effort is a step towards the active management of informality, and the improvement of the service to the sector” The TUCard card was made possible thanks to the company SlackCards, an enterprise run by young Dominicans.

In the same way, a complete platform of solutions and intelligence was shown. As part of these tools, the Occupation APP was released, a platform where hotels throughout the country report daily to the Ministry of Tourism their levels of hotel availability and occupancy, and at the same time they can be compared with their region.

“This tool allows us to measure the effectiveness of initiatives, the timely performance of the sector, and gives us valuable information to make decisions,” said Collado.

The event ended with the Launch of the Tourist Intelligence System (SITUR). This system combines the information generated by all these platforms, with information obtained from local and international sources, in coordination with other State entities.

With this tool, the Ministry of Tourism takes a step towards innovation and transparency, putting information at the center of modern state management. The new Situr portal allows the user and investor power to have information on tourism in an easy and fast way, as well as recurring reports on tourism, destinations in the Dominican Republic.
