MITUR celebrates the National Day of Larimar, symbol of Dominicanity
“Technical Perspectives of the Larimar Craft Industry”
Barahona.- By commemorating today, the National Larimar Day, declared “National Stone” in 2011, the Ministry of Tourism and other institutions, develop a broad agenda with the aim of exalting this stone, which identifies the Dominican Republic worldwide .
The activities are carried out in the auditorium of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), on its premises in Barahona, by the Permanent Committee on Larimar National Day, which is made up of the ministries of Energy and Mines, Environment and Natural Resources. , Culture, Tourism, Industry and Commerce and MIPyMES, Education, as well as, the General Directorate of Mining, National Directorate for the Promotion and Development of Handicrafts, among other institutions.
The National Congress in 2018, declared November 22, the “National Larimar Day”, through Law No. 17-18, being that day in 1916, when the priest Miguel Domingo Fuertes discovered the stone in Barahona.
Larimar is a variety of pectolite that is only found in the Dominican Republic in its blue and white color, and symbolizes the identity of Quisqueya.
The activities to be developed within the framework of this celebration are; the conferences “Technical Perspectives of the Craft Industry of Larimar”, “Future of Larimar as a Country Brand”, the panel of Miners and Craftsmen, the ceremony of the launching of the Larimar Postal Stamp.
Likewise, an audiovisual of the history of Larimar will be presented, also, a recognition to Daniel Santacruz, winner of a Latin Grammy for his production “Larimar” as “Best Merengue and / or Bachata Album”, in 2020.
