NOAA predicts 13 hurricanes for record-breaking 2024 Atlantic season
Miami – The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a strong warning that the 2024 Atlantic Ocean hurricane season will be the most active in decades.
According to the NOAA forecast, up to 13 hurricanes are expected to form throughout the season, which begins today. In addition, the agency estimates that the number of cyclones that will reach the coasts will be double the usual amount. This forecast represents “the highest hurricane season outlook NOAA has ever issued,” according to the organization’s representatives.
The call for preparedness and caution is urgent as a significant impact is anticipated on coastal areas. NOAA urges communities and media across the Atlantic to stay informed and take the necessary steps to protect themselves during this exceptionally active season.
NOAA warned about an 85% chance that the season will be above normal, with between 17 and 25 named storms and 8 to 13 hurricanes, of which between 4 and 7 would be major. The usual figures are 7 hurricanes, of which only 3 are major category.
