Qatari investors explore tourism potential in Pedernales province
A delegation of officials and investors, led by the head of the North and South America territory at the Qatar Investment Authority, Sheikh, Mohamed Bin Abdulla Al Thani, visited the area of Cabo Rojo, Pedernales to learn about the Pedernales Tourism Development Project , which will be executed from scratch in the public-private partnership modality.
The delegation, also made up of the Executive Director of Commercial Relations at the Hassad Food Company, Mobaral Rashed Al Sahouti; the Executive Vice President of Operations at the Qatari port administration company, Abdelaziz Nasser Al Yafii, and the third secretary at the Directorate of American Affairs, Mohamed Yousef Al Muhannadi, was received by the head of the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP) , Sigmund Freund, who showed them the tourist attractions of the area, the hotel model and the benefits of the project.
Freund stressed that the presence of this Qatari delegation in Cabo Rojo is a sample of the result of an official visit carried out a few months ago, in which he was accompanying the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and of the commitments assumed during it.
“The fact that they have fulfilled the promise they made to us on that visit to come to the Dominican Republic in January is a sign of interest of this country in establishing commercial ties and making investments in the projects developed by the Dominican Government,” the official said.
He also highlighted that the fact that the delegation itself has chosen to visit the Pedernales project is evidence that there is a marked interest in promoting investment and assured that there is a high probability that an important investment will be made in this project.
He added that, in the same way, the investors that participate in the delegation showed interest in learning about the project for the construction of the Autopista del Ámbar, a highway that will connect the province of Santiago with Puerto Plata in less than 30 minutes and that will have an impact positive in tourism and trade in the northern region.
“The fact that this delegation, headed by a Secretary of State accompanied by officials and investors, remain in the Dominican Republic for almost four days, visiting places as far away as Pedernales, is a sign that there is a firm intention to identify investment areas. seriously and to bring concrete proposals to his government”, emphasized Freund.
He pointed out that the Dominican Republic, due to its geographical location, could become the first country where the State of Qatar could lay the foundations to expand its trade relations in the region.
Freund told the visitors that the conservation of biodiversity, the promotion of an inclusive economy and cultural wealth, land use planning in sync with the natural and social environment, the consolidation and diversification of the tourist offer and the creation of a infrastructure for low-impact tourism development, are the essence in the implementation of this project that will be executed in Cabo Rojo.
The Qatari delegation, accompanied by a delegation of government officials, toured the pier and beaches of Cabo Rojo, also the Hotel del Acantilado (former Hotel de la Alcoa Corporation) and took a boat ride to Bahía de las Eagles.
