Dominican republic area expansion in 2021: 48 new connections worldwide
2021 closes with the entry into operations of new air routes that connect the Dominican Republic with the world, achieving greater international connection for the country.
This was reported by the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) by detailing that during said year 48 new international air routes came into operation.
“The country inaugurated flights during this year with the cities of Kazan (Russia); Boryspil (Ukraine); Bucharest (Romania); Katowice (Poland); and other cities such as Nassua (Bahamas) and Piarco (Trinidad and Tobago) non-traditional destinations in the arrival of passengers to the country ”, indicated the president of the JAC, José Marte Piantini.
He highlighted the increase in the travel sector in the country. In addition, he confirmed that with the opening of new routes, the Dominican Republic enters the offer of new destinations with international connections, which open the doors to the arrival of more travelers.
“Since 2020, the Civil Aviation Board, as an organ of the Dominican Government and the actors of the aeronautical industry, have come together to recover the country’s connectivity, a fundamental axis in the policy of the President of the Republic Luis Abinader,” he said.
He explained that establishing 48 new routes during 2021 was due to an articulated work with the private sector and the other entities of the national aeronautical sector. “We are in charge of maintaining the promotion of commercial aviation activity in the country so that national and international air operators can resume their executions.”
He added that “at the end of 2021, we have developed and applied the principles of a tangible Open Skies commercial aviation policy, through the approval of flight routes and frequencies, the conclusion of new air service agreements and the ratification and amendments of those already concluded; which means a greater connectivity of the Dominican Republic with the rest of the world. Likewise, we have carried out the necessary actions to encourage and promote the development of national civil aviation ”.
“As a result of the actions outlined, it is estimated that the country will close this year with a total of 10.7 million passengers transported in and out, which represents a 73.8% recovery compared to 2019 (last year without a pandemic), which translates into direct and indirect income estimated for the country of 9,926 million dollars ”, he added.
