Sales of tourism MSMEs are projected to exceed US million in the Dominican Republic

A study carried out by the accounting, administration and electronic invoicing platform for Mipymes shows statistics that point to a solid recovery of the tourism and hotel sector in the Dominican Republic after two years of being hit by the pandemic.

According to the application, sales of tourism MSMEs are expected to exceed US$8 million, which means an increase of 41% compared to 2021, where sales of US$5,680 million were recorded; and 7% more than in 2019, a year that closed sales of US$7,471 million.

“Although the sector has been recovering after the repercussions of the pandemic, there are still some challenges and opportunities to take advantage of and not only return to the way they were before the pandemic, but also modernize the tourism sector from its core, SMEs”, no they can Haydeé Cabrera, strategic leader of Alegra.com in the Dominican Republic.

The report states that tourism projects were also part of the recovery of the sector; Currently, according to the Tourism Development Council (Confotur), an approximate investment of US$ 331.5 million is estimated in 18 tourism projects.

“However, there are still some opportunities to take advantage of, such as the diversification of the tourism product, as well as the management of MSMEs in the sector to ensure their comprehensive development; in the latter case, many enterprises lack an administrative and operational structure that are much clearer in large companies, this prevents them from making strategic decisions for business growth».

“Having a cloud platform to carry out business administration, accounting and billing can be crucial in a rapidly changing landscape where having business data and information can help make sound decisions.”

For this reason, Cabrera said that “the significant growth that the sector is having again in the country is an opportunity for Dominican entrepreneurs to potentiate their businesses.”

“Thus, allying with organization and accounting systems, which allow saving time and peace of mind, is the key to guaranteeing the full performance of the sector”, he concluded.
