Santiago is experiencing a boom: it will add more than 3,500 hotel rooms
Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, seeks to continue its development as a tourist destination by enriching its offerings and becoming more than just a complementary city for tourism in Puerto Plata.
The destination has around 11 hotels and five new ones are being built, for a total of 3,000 rooms in operation and some 570 in the complexes under construction, according to Acento.
According to the president of the Santiago Tourism Cluster, Ramón Paulino, in addition to the hotels, there are a huge number of structures operating in the city as Airbnbs, but the exact number is unknown.
He indicated that the Cluster conducted a survey of everything that needs to be improved in Santiago in order to make it suitable for becoming the tourist destination they are seeking, enriching its offerings to visitors with Santiago’s combination of culture, history, urban life, and health services (health tourism).
