Survey indicates that 92% of tourists who visit the Dominican Republic intend to return
80% of tourists expressed their desire to repeat the activities enjoyed during their stay Between January and July 2024, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic conducted an analysis of the tourist experience, conducting 248,973 surveys that addressed key aspects such as satisfaction, destinations visited, trip planning, use of social networks and gastronomy. 92% of tourists surveyed expressed their intention to return to the Dominican Republic, reflecting a high level of satisfaction with their experience.
Of the more than 48,000 surveys conducted to evaluate the tourist experience, the results indicate that five out of ten participants engaged in outstanding activities such as visiting Saona Island (15 %), snorkeling (12 %), Four Wheels rides (11 %), Colonial Zone excursions (7 %) and horseback riding (4 %), among other activities.
In addition, 80% of the tourists expressed their desire to repeat the activities they enjoyed during their stay. As for lodging, 78% of the tourists chose to stay in hotels, while 8% chose to stay with friends or relatives, another 8% made a short-term rental, 4% used their own lodging and the remaining 2% registered as timeshares.
The most popular destinations were Punta Cana, with 40% of the visits, followed by Santo Domingo (19%), Puerto Plata (13%), La Romana (11%), Samana (8%), Santiago (7%) and Barahona (2%). More than 93% of tourists indicated that they would repeat the destination visited. 40% of tourists also explored several destinations, including other Caribbean destinations (30%), Cancun (28%), Jamaica (13%), Cuba (10%) and Costa Rica (7%).
In terms of planning, 38% of tourists organized their trip 1 to 3 months in advance, while 51% purchased a package that included flight and hotel. 57% of respondents indicated that advertising on social networks, especially Instagram and Facebook, significantly influenced their decision to travel. In fact, 79% used social networks to obtain information about tourist destinations. Gastronomy also played a crucial role in the tourist experience. In surveys conducted in July 2024, 85% of visitors had a positive experience with local food, and 36% of those staying in hotels chose to eat out.
