Group will create a tourist corridor ‘Costa del Sur’ to promote development
The clusters of the Southwest region of the country held a meeting with the Vice Minister of Territorial Organization and Regional Development, Domingo Matías, of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), with the aim of interacting on the scope and implementation process of the new Organic Law on Territorial Planning, Land Use and Human Settlements.
During the meeting, the diagnosis for the creation of the Southwest tourist corridor called “Costa Del Sur” was presented, through which a new destination will be created, more organized and better planned since its inception.
The corridor will be composed in principle by the Pedernales, Barahona, Azua, San José de Ocoa and Peravia provinces.
The diagnosis for the creation of the tourist corridor was financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and establishes the priorities of each of the provinces that comprise it, emphasizing the processes that must be carried out during the first stage of the project. which are: the territorial planning of each province and the strengthening of the governance of each of the municipalities involved in order to overcome structural and budgetary weaknesses.
“These works will allow us that the development of our destination, the southern area, is different from the northern and eastern areas, where the hotels were first installed, the tourists arrived and later the communities that were not ready to go were prepared. such activity, ”said Juan Tejeda, president of the Baní Tourism and Productive Cluster.
