Tourism and National Police strengthen measures in Punta Cana

Punta Cana, DR.- In a meeting held with representatives of the tourism sector, the Director General of the National Police, Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the safety of visitors arriving at the country’s various tourist destinations.

“We are working constantly with tourism sector entities to identify and address any needs, concerns or improvements that the National Police can implement to ensure the safety of all visitors, both domestic and foreign,” Guzmán Peralta expressed.

The head of the law enforcement agency emphasized that the National Police is the guarantor of the state of trust that each person places in the country when choosing it as a tourist destination, and that it will remain vigilant to protect investment in this sector.

“We remain attentive and willing to improve any situation that arises. Our commitment is to maintain the high levels of security that characterize the Dominican Republic,” he added.

The meeting, headed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, brought together representatives of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), the Association of Hotels of the East (Asoleste), the Tourist Police (Politur), the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), as well as hoteliers and security chiefs of the hotel properties in the East Zone.

Minister Collado highlighted that the meeting is part of the government’s firm and unwavering commitment to security in the country’s various tourist destinations.

“The statistics confirm it: the Dominican Republic surpasses all countries in the region in terms of security. This is because we take care of every detail and, together with Asonahores, we review and reinforce the areas that require it, both in the public and private sectors,” Collado said.

The minister also pointed to the great responsibility of keeping insecurity rates low in tourist destinations, considering that in March alone the country received more than one million one hundred thousand visitors. Therefore, he emphasized the need to strengthen and protect tourist destinations in terms of security, both in the public sphere and in the private sector within their facilities.

“We are aware of the importance of tourists for the country’s economy and development, which is why we have decided to join forces to ensure that they feel safe and can walk freely in tourist areas. This meeting is a sign of the commitment of the military and law enforcement agencies and reaffirms that we are not ‘relaxing’ on security matters,” Collado emphasized.
