Tourism in Pedernales will be in total respect for the environment and biodiversity
Santo Domingo.- The Pedernales Tourism Development Plan, which contemplates in a first phase, the creation of more than 15 thousand direct jobs, will be done in total respect for the environment and biodiversity in the protected areas of the entire province.
The Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and coordinator of the Pedernales tourism project, Carlos Peguero, reported that Bahía de Las Águilas will not be included in said Plan with the construction of hotels and other infrastructure works, but that it will be Only in the Cabo Rojo area, where it is intended to use 30 million square meters in land of about 315 million available to use.
He stated that the tourism that is being promoted in the province “will be an immersion tourism, different from the all-inclusive, high-end, in which the tourist goes out for a walk and visits the communities, and that for this, work has been done on the rehabilitation of all points of tourist interest in the Enriquillo region ”.
He added that the development of Pedernales is a promise and interest of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to contribute socially and economically to the inhabitants of that region of the Southwest of the country.
He said that the Presidential Commission for Tourism Development of Pedernales is working on the professional technical preparation of the inhabitants of the Enriquillo region, training them in the areas of construction and tourism.
He also indicated that due to the great interest of President Abinader in providing a different agriculture in the Plan, progress is being made in projects to promote organic agricultural development, so that tourists receive quality products from the same area at the same time.
Similarly, the official said, that out of respect for the environment and biodiversity, Cabo Rojo has measures such as reducing the carbon footprint and only allowing the circulation of pollutant-free electric vehicles.
