UNWTO Secretary General says DR is the best country to invest
MADRID, Spain.- The Dominican Republic is the best country to invest and travel, assured the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashbili at a breakfast attended by President Luis Abinader.
He considered that Abinader’s presence at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2022) is a great boost for Dominican tourism and stressed that it is the first time that a head of state attends this activity.
«»At UNWTO we support countries that prioritize tourism to attract new investment opportunities, and this is the time to innovate in the tourism model, and investment is the vehicle to achieve more innovative, sustainable tourism with a real impact in quality employment,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministers of Tourism, David Collado, and Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, as well as representatives of the Dominican tourism sector and other nationalities who shared the data that shows the Dominican Republic as “one of the most attractive destinations in Central America and the Caribbean to invest, especially in tourism.
“It is the main recipient of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the entire Caribbean, with an average annual economic growth rate of 6.1% compared to 3.1% in the region (2015-2019), 9.4% average annual increase in Foreign Investment Direct (2015-2019), and the tourism sector concentrated 21.35% of the FDI accumulated during 2010-2020”, he added.
It is one of the “most attractive destinations in the Central American and Caribbean region, due to its strategic geographic location; its solid legal framework and incentives; its advanced infrastructure; its wealth and variety of natural resources; its economic stability, and human talent.
