Masters Surf Reunion” to be held in its eighth edition
From March 7 to 10 at Playa Encuentro, Cabarete
The competition that will bring together different generations of Dominican surfers is back to the north coast of the Dominican Republic and internationally renowned foreign participants.
The organizers of the “Masters Surf Reunion” announced the launching of this eighth edition of the original event that will gather in Playa Encuentro, Cabarete, several generations of Dominican and foreign surfers.
“We are very excited with the celebration of this eighth edition of the event, each time with more support and more confident that we are providing a completely different sporting event proposal,” comments Luis Aracena, director of the event. “This is a comprehensive event that combines a surfing competition for over 35 years old, a reunion of old friends and leisure activities such as parties and concerts, especially designed for adult audiences and their families,” explains Isabel Puig, assistant director. Recalling the declaration of Cabarete as the Wave and Wind Sports Capital of the Caribbean, placing it in an important point of interest for the country’s tourism.
This edition expects the participation of more than 100 surfers who will compete in the categories “Master”, “Grand Master”, “Kahuna”, “Grand Kahuna”, “Legends”, “Master Ladies”, “Come-Back” and “Father Son” and a Grand Master Final with US$13,000 in prizes. We will also have an “Expression Session” with outstanding local and international OPEN category surfers.
Venezuelan Magnum Martinez, 2012 World Master Champion and MSR7 Champion in 2023; Juan Ashton, from Puerto Rico, triple World Master Champion; Martin Passeri, 6 times Argentinean Surfing Champion and twice Latin American; Danny Garcia, from Spain, current European Master Champion; Charlie Hayek, multiple US East Coast Master Champion, have confirmed their participation; CT Taylor and David Spier, also from the East Coast of the USA and former WSL pro surfing tour competitors; Otto Flores, from Puerto Rico, one of the most outstanding surfers in the Latin American area; Pedro Rangel, Pan American medalist, Venezuelan champion, top Latin American and with outstanding performances in ISA world championships, as well as Mike Latronic, 2013 World Master champion and Hawaii surfing legend.
For the Dominican Republic have confirmed their participation outstanding master surfers such as Victor Peralta and Zion Balbuena from Cabarete as well as Ivan Herrera, Jose Luis Aquino from DN, Pedro Fernandez, winner of the MSR6 in 2022, Andres Flores outstanding Dominican big wave surfer and Robert Reid one of the best Dominican surfers in history.
For the Expression Session Open have confirmed their participation the Chilean Olympic surfer and Cabarete resident Manuel Selman, the champion of Spain Open Nestor Garcia and Gianmarco Oliva, the promise of Dominican surfing who recently became the first Dominican to qualify for an event of the World Surfing League (WSL).
The opening ceremony will be held on Thursday 7th at Coconuts restaurant in Cabarete. The surfing competition will take place at Playa Encuentro starting on Friday the 8th until Sunday the 10th. On Saturday the 9th there will be an 80’s themed party at Tuva Restaurant in Playa Encuentro, Cabarete with DJ Elvis Calderon. Sunday the 10th will be the closing ceremony and awards ceremony at Coconuts Restaurant in Cabarete.
Cabarete is once again hosting a high-level sporting event, thanks to its varied hotel infrastructure and its diverse gastronomic and recreational options, and most importantly, that it has the Encuentro beach (5 minutes by car from Cabarete) with world-class waves and unbeatable conditions for surfing.
The “Masters Surf Meeting 8” has more than 30 sponsoring companies and is held with the support of the Dominican Association of Surfing Masters (ADSM) and the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR).
