Announced the second Asoglar Golf Classic will honor the memory of José Lahoz (Joselin)
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Romana Golf Association announced the second Golf Classic (Asoglar) 2022, where some 100 golfers are expected, dedicated to the memory of Mr. José Lahoz Rodríguez (Joselin).
The information was released at a press conference held at the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), where the leaders of Asoglar, Freddy Mazara, president, and Ramon Piña, treasurer, met, while the Dominican Olympic Committee, Antonio Acosta , president and Rafael Villalona vocal and past president of Fedogolf.
Mazara indicated that the tournament will be held on June 4 of this year at The Links golf course in Casa de Campo. The output will be from 8:30 in the morning by shotgun. The modality of the event is bestball twosome in pairs.
For their part, Acosta and Villalona praised the event and the work being done by the new Asoglar board, which is chaired by Mazara.
“You can count on the COD, they have open doors and we look forward to the success of the tournament,” said Acosta.
“This board has been developing good events like this, and that benefits Dominican golf, so I am very happy with Asoglar,” said Villalona.
For his part, Héctor Luis Lahoz, son of Joselin, stated that his family feels honored by the dedication to the memory of the tournament to José Lahoz Rodríguez.
José Lahoz Rodríguez (Joselin) started playing golf in 1962. Before that, he had played baseball and volleyball.
Joselin has been one of the most outstanding golf players in the country, since there are many tournaments where he has always participated with an outstanding performance. He was inducted into the Romanense Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
In the 1980s, with a handicap of 2, he began a journey of international competitions representing the country in the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships, open category (Junior) for the famous Hoermann Cup in Puerto Rico, Barbados, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Santo Domingo.
He attended Venezuela twice on behalf of the country to participate in the Simón Bolívar Cup, he attends in Zaragoza, Spain, in the Hispanic Cup, where he manages to qualify to compete in the Amateur Golf World Cup, representing our country.
His participation in international events does not stop and in Guadalajara, Mexico, he attends the Latin American Golf Cup twice, in Miami, Florida the Americas Cup, in Puerto Rico in the Gran Meniere Cup, in pairs in the modality Scratch where in two opportunities he obtains the first place, coming in second and third place in two other participations.
