Once again successful tournament Charles Manatt Memorial Ambassador’s Cup
The twenty-second edition of the classic golf tournament of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) was held at the Dye Fore golf course in Casa de Campo, La Romana.
120 players played the joust in the “scramble” mode in pairs.
La Romana, May 30. With 66 strokes, Julio Ernesto Cross and Juan Morel were proclaimed winners of the first gross place of the Charles T. Manatt Memorial Ambassador’s Cup 2022 golf tournament, held by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) on Saturday, May 28 at the Dye Fore course in Casa de Campo, La Romana.
The tournament was held in categories A, B and C from the early hours of the morning. Roberto Herrera, president of AMCHAMDR, highlighted that the Charles Manatt Memorial Ambassador’s Cup 2022 is crucial for the resources that the institution requires to provide the products and services that it makes available to its members.
The participants began the day at 8 in the morning to play a competition marked by an atmosphere of integration and honest sports competition, after the opening words of Roberto Herrera. By 3 in the afternoon the players had completed the 18 holes of the course, after which they were received in the large tent where the lunch and award ceremony took place. With a few words of thanks to the players and guests present by William Malamud, Executive Vice President of AMCHAMDR, this second part of the day’s program was opened.
Winners
José Hernández and Joan González won first place net in category A for a final result of 65 clubs. The second net place in the same category corresponded to Edgar Iván Del Toro Toral and Wilfredo Baquero with 67 strokes and the third net place was awarded to Brandon Paniagua and Carlos Martí, with 67 net strokes, in a tiebreaker by card.
In category B, the winners of the net first place were golfers Ismar Torres and Danilo Taveras with 64 strokes. In the second net place, with 67 hits, Radhamés Guillermo and Rafael Holguín, followed by José Zapata and Carlos Flores with 68 hits in the third net place, in a tiebreaker by card.
In category C, Jorge Galiver and Demetrio Almonte reached first place for a total of 68 net hits. These were followed by José Rodríguez and Alberto Bergés with 69 hits in second place, and Gilbert Alberto Suero and Carlos Méndez in third place in the category with 69 hits, also in a card tiebreaker.
Among the special prizes, the winners were Alejandro Gómez in longest drive and Julio Ernesto Cross in approach to the flag.

About Charles T. Manatt (1999-2001)
Charles Taylor Manatt served as United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, representing the government of President Bill Clinton between 1999 and 2001. Ambassador Manatt was the creator of the Ambassador’s Cup golf tournament, which has been held since 2000 by the American Chamber of Trade.
At the end of his diplomatic management in the country, Ambassador Manatt was decorated by the Dominican government with the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella, in the Degree of Grand Cross Silver Plate, an act that took place in the Foreign Ministry and It was headed by former President Hipólito Mejía. Likewise, the Dominican Senate gave him a parchment of recognition for his valuable management.
The Ambassador’s Cup was created to be, in Manatt’s own words, “an opportunity for those who have been successful in business to contribute to the greater good, and have fun while doing it.”
