In recent years the environment has undergone several changes that have been a starting point for both people, and large companies, to adopt in their day to day sustainable and friendly practices to generate a positive environmental impact.
Hyatt aware of the situation announced last year, as part of its environmental sustainability programs, its global efforts to reduce single-use plastic such as plastic straws and beverage mixers, in addition to minimizing and diverting food waste , responsible distribution chain and reduce the consumption of water and energy.
As an example of this, Park Hyatt St. Kitts changed to paper straws at all points of consumption, Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya makes use of avocado seed straws which take time to degrade from 90 to 240 days, unlike plastic straws that take 400 to 800 years, and Thomson Playa del Carmen uses biodegradable straws that are delivered only at the request of the guest, replaced the plastic shakers with wooden shakers in all our centers of consumption and use cork cup holders that can be reused more than 10 times and are 100% biodegradable.
The change does not stop there, Hyatt being faithful to its purpose of caring for people to be their best version, has implemented in several of its properties different initiatives that in addition to achieving a positive impact, generate awareness in their guests, clients and Business partners.
Park Hyatt St. Kitts works daily to stay responsible when analyzing issues such as recycling, energy saving and the conscious purchase of inputs. Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Península Papagayo replaced plastic water bottles in each room with reusable glass bottles, created a room dedicated to water purification with state-of-the-art Aquatech equipment where water passes through three different filters that create water 100 percent purified; among other ecological initiatives that prioritize the conservation of water and energy.
Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro has shown that its priority is the preservation of the environment, in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Area of Marapendi, the hotel worked with specialists in the analysis of vegetation, replanting the vegetation of the area, cleaning and conservation of the place; It has also managed to reduce water consumption by 5% thanks to the reuse of it, the use of timers and the restriction of water flow in bathrooms.
