Fedogolf will hold the LII National Championships dedicated to the memory of Dr. Douglas Bournigal
The Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf) announced the celebration of the Stroke Play National Championships (game by blows) in its version number 52, to be held from next Thursday June 20 to 23, in Teeth of The Dog, in Casa de Campo , with special dedication to the deceased doctor Douglas Bournigal.
The National Championships is the maximum local competitive event that annually makes the Fedogolf with a view to determine the champion and national champion in this discipline in the country.
In its version of this year the event will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. Bournigal, who was in life a great passionate about this sport. Along with his family, he had a long career as an amateur golf player and always supported and was part of the competitive events.
“Dr. Bournigal was a great proponent of this sport with his family. His father was the founder of Puerto Plata Golf Club, his brother Mairení was national champion. Douglas was a champion of the National Championship and not only played for many years, also supported the fair, “said Carlos Elmúdesi, president of Fedogolf, at a press conference in the halls of the institution.
“He was a regular golf player all his life, so much so that he played two or three times a week. He was a great golf enthusiast, so we are going to recognize him, in the 52nd version of the event, where we will have his wife Mari Carmen Morales from Bournigal accompanying us, “added Elmudesi.
Dr. Bournigal always stood out for his human gifts, his values and his virtue of being an altruistic person who also went down in history as the first pilot to arrive on an international flight in a glider from North Carolina to Monte Cristi, crossing through the mysterious Triangle of Bermuda. Merits that added to a whole resume have made it recognized in this important event.
The success of the tournament for 52 years has also allowed the participation of international amateur players who travel to the country to face the tough competition that the tournament demands for more than 3 days at the emblematic Teeth of The Dog golf course.
More than 100 golfers from all over the country and from Puerto Rico are expected in the most important amateur event of 2019 and the oldest.
In the competition, always expected by local golfers, they will face the categories A, AA, Ladies A, Mid-Amateur, Senior A and Supersenior A, in four rounds of play, 72 holes.
Likewise, categories B, C and D will compete; Senior B, C and Ladies in B, C and D at 54 holes.
The National Champions of the event in category A, both male and female, will occupy a place in the Caribbean Amateur Championships.
The Dominican Rhadamés Peña was the winner of the tournament last year.
