An interesting agenda for the 5th International Congress on Tourism Health and Well-being

Santo Domingo , DR March 2021.- The event organizers, Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS) and Lic. Amelia Reyes Mora, president of AF Comunicación Estratégica, presented the agenda of the 5th . International Congress of Health and Wellness Tourism. An ideal space for all the actors that are part of the health sector to develop ideas, businesses, synergies and, mainly, highlight the competitive advantages that the Dominican Republic has as a tourist leader in the region.

The event to be held on June 9 and 10, 2021 at the Ambassador Royal Hideaway Hotel in Santo Domingo, will feature an innovative and updated biosafety protocol in accordance with the guidelines of the Atlanta CDC and the World Health Organization. In addition to the strict security measures provided by the Hotel and endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, sanitary measures and protocols for registration, cleaning, disinfection and air circulation will be strengthened.

The celebration of the main medical tourism event in Central America and the Caribbean will have an outstanding local representation and the visit of renowned international experts, among which the following stand out: Dr. David Vequist, Ph.D. Founder and director of the Center for Medical Tourism Research (CMTR); Dr. David Samadi, director of urology oncology at Saint Francis Hospital; Elizabeth Ziemba, president of the Medical Tourism Training; Dr. Javier Morales, president of Best Option Healthcare, and Massimo Manzi, executive director of the Costa Rican Chamber of Health (PROMED), among others.

On the opening day, ministerial representatives, sponsors, the diplomatic community, and investors will witness the special recognitions that the most prominent institutions in the sector will receive. Likewise, the official launch of the 3rd edition of the Dominican Republic Health and Wellness Tourism Guide will be held.

The activity will be made up of various discussion panels, keynotes and spaces for networking. Among the most anticipated topics are “Health Passport and Role of Vaccines in the relaunch of tourism and the economy”, “Lessons learned from the international accreditation process and covid-19 safety standards” and “The contribution of Health Tourism in the Country Brand ”. The latter has great expectations after the launch of the Country Brand last year, in a public-private effort that seeks to project the image and the attractions of the nation abroad.

The International Congress of Health and Wellness Tourism, in its last two years has brought together 800 participants and around 70 exhibitors and more than 110 sponsors, who have become an impetus to continue raising the innovation, competitiveness and quality standards of the country’s health and tourism services.

Welcome cocktail, recognitions to outstanding institutions and launch of the 3rd. Edition of the Health and Wellness Tourism Guide of the Dominican Republic.

Ministerial representatives, sponsors, national and international guests, the diplomatic community, investors and participants are invited to the launch event.

Thursday June 10 / Conferences and panels

Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the ADTS, will open the day by moderating the panel “Lessons learned from the international accreditation process and covid-19 safe standards”.

The participants will be Dr. Arnaldo Espaillat, Medical Director of the Espaillat Cabral Institute; Dr. José Natalio Redondo, president of the Rescue Group Board of Directors; Dr. Héctor Sánchez Navarro, CEO Meta Integra HOMS.

Next, Lic. Amelia Reyes Mora, president of AF Comunicación Estratégica, will coordinate the panel “The contribution of Health Tourism to the Country Brand”. We will present the comprehensive effort to strengthen the image of the Dominican Republic, consolidate its potential in international markets and reinforce its positioning in the global context.

The panelists will be: Lic. Biviana Riveiro, Pro-Dominicana Executive Director; Lic. Tammy Reynoso, MITUR Tourism Development Advisor; Lic. Rafael Blanco Canto, Representative of the private sector Country Brand; Arch. Carlos de la Mota, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Relations for the Dominican Communities Abroad; Massimo Manzi, Executive Director of the Costa Rican Chamber of Health (PROMED).

The panel “Health Passport and Role of Vaccines in the relaunch of tourism and the economy” will be presented by Dr. José Brea, president of the Dominican Society of Vaccination, who will be in charge of moderating the discussion among the participants. Standing out Dr. Rita Rojas, president of the Society of Infectious Diseases; Dr. Javier Morales, Medical Director of Best Option Healthcare.

Meanwhile, the first conference is given by the international expert in health technology and business, Fedor Vidal, CEO of Arium Health, an information technology services company that aims to raise the quality standards of the health sector in Dominican Republic and Latin America. His conference will focus on the “Challenges of innovation and digital transformation in health”.

Meanwhile, the second presentation of the event will be given by Dr. David Vequist, Ph.D, founder and director of the Medical Tourism Research Center (CMTR, for its acronym in English), who will present on “Medical tourism in a world pandemic ”, in the context of COVID-19.

For his part, Dr. José Rafael Yunén, will moderate the panel: “Key factors in the patient experience”, where Ms. Elizabeth Ziemba, President Medical Tourism Training; Arch. Herly Valenzuela, General Director of Ureña Valenzuela & Asociados; Dr. José Joaquín Puello, president of the Luis Eduardo Aybar Sanitary City.

Dr. Luis Alcántara, a renowned Dominican orthopedist, is in charge of the moderation of the panel “Plastic Surgery, Dentistry, Orthopedics and Robotics: Markets with great potential for the export of health services”. It will have the participation of local and international top-level authorities such as Dr. Rubén Carrasco, president of the Dominican Society of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; Dr. David Samadi, Director of Oncology Urology at Saint Francis Hospital.

The Executive Director of Public-Private Partnerships, Sigmund Freund, will lead a panel that seeks to know the perspective of the Dominican health and tourism sector and the potential of its strategic integration. With the theme “Public-Private Partnerships in the health and tourism sectors”, the participants: Lic. Rafael Blanco Tejera President of Asonahores, Dr. Eddy Pérez Then Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Lic. Joel Santos, tourism advisor to the Executive Power, will debate on the importance of strengthening these alliances.

Health and wellness tourism needs the fundamental guarantees to operate safely, reliably and sustainably for both service providers and the insurance sector, and especially for patients. In this sense, Lic. Leonel Melo, president of OMG, is responsible for directing the Panel: “Regulatory Framework for Health Tourism: Challenges and Opportunities”. Among those invited to participate are Dr. Servio Tulio Castaños Guzmán Executive Vice President FINJUS Dr. Maite Del toro; ADTS Legal Director; Lic. Enrique de Marchena, Managing Partner DMK; Lawyers Lic. Gilberto Objío, CEO Medical Law.

The great event closes with a speech by David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, who will address the topic “Strategies for reactivating the tourism sector.”
